Empath
When someone can psychically feel the emotions of another person, animal or place, they are called an empath. This ability often works hand in hand
with telepathy, the ability to communicate without using conventional methods. Not only can empaths know what a person, animal, or place is currently
feeling, but also what they felt in the past and will feel in the future. While most people can tell if someone is upset by visual clues, an empath can
see deeply hidden feelings, feelings that normal people cannot sense. Even people who put on a brave face and try to hide their feelings can have their
true feelings read by an empath.
As with many different types of psychic phenomenon, an empath’s ability can be of varying degrees. While no one is certain how an empath gets his or her ability, there are different theories on the matter. Many believe that it is genetic, passed down from one generation to another. Some people think we are all born with a certain amount of empathy ability, which some choose to develop and some choose to ignore. Anyone can be an empath, but for some reason, those who are particularly artistic, such as writers, poets, and singers, seem to be more likely to be in touch with their empathy abilities than others are. It is believed that everything has a certain vibration of energy and that empaths are more sensitive to these vibrations that others and that is how they sense stuff.
Many people think that some of the strongest empathy ties are between relatives. It is often said that a mother knows what emotions her child is feeling. People also believe the twins have a special empathy bond. In many cases, when one twin feels pain, the other twin, even if they are nowhere near, feels the same pain.
Because empaths are so in touch with others, they are usually great listeners and many become counselors. Even those that do not choose counseling as a profession are very eager to help those around them. Others, perhaps feeling burdened with the ability, become quite and withdrawn. Many empaths are so busy tending to the needs of others, they often overlook their own needs. Generally, they are the peacemaker in the crowd, trying to make everyone happy. Empaths are so overwhelmed by violence of any kind, even that shown on television and in movies, they often get physically ill. They cannot understand the suffering and cruelty, even if it is make believe.
Several years ago, the movie The Horse Whisperer came out. The movie was about a cowboy named Tom who had a very special ability to communicate with the horses. He is a great example of an empath who could feel what animals were feeling.
